Nonprofits in the new normal. Post Covid-19 challenges of nonprofits

It’s been 20 months since December 2019, when Covid-19 first appeared. While things are better now, we’ve all experienced uncertainty and challenges over these last 20 months. The pandemic has brought about a range of unanticipated changes in the business and community, and we all are now in the world of new normal.

Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic changed life as we know it, but after a struggle of 20 months, the world has returned to some form of normality. Now that we’ve had some time to reflect, let us explore what we have learnt from this experience.

Challenges faced by many nonprofits in the Post-Covid world.

01

Mission that was and Mission it is

Dynamics of society have changed globally. It is estimated that the Global economy has been hit by US$ 4 trillion in GDP for the period of 2020 and 2021. This has a direct impact on the fundraisers, events and programs for nonprofits. But a bigger impact could be on your mission due to these and several other uncertain factors. While some nonprofit organizations are still aligned on their mission, many have realized the need for a systematic change while continuing to expand their reach and impact towards the causes which matter more in the new normal. We need to adapt. As a nonprofit you need to adapt to a changing climate. Your mission is the crux of your organization's success. It's important to keep paying attention to your mission and keep it relevant as per the new normal.

Fundraising the Omnichannel way

Different parts of the world have experienced different waves of pandemic. The offline fundraising events in pre-pandemic times now need to be thought through with a combination of offline and online models. A pure offline model may not work as social distancing norms can limit the number of supporters participating in such events. Also a pure digital model, while effective, may suffer from lesser audience participation due to ineffective website or app experience or network connectivity challenges. A carefully planned omnichannel experience for fundraising events which utilizes the power of digital payments, lovable mobile app and website experiences which syncs with offline events that are organised with Covid-19 safety measures will be highly effective. Let the network do the magic. Peer-2-Peer fundraising with gamification can have a big impact on fundraising. The voice of every one of your supporters is heard loud and clear. Each supporter can set up a page where they can share their story and raise money for you.

Team collaboration in the new normal

Many organizations have been affected by the pandemic. Non-profits have been especially hard hit, as donations have declined. As a result, many non-profits have been forced to lay off their team members or reduce their hours. Due to the reduced workforce many team members are expected to multi-task and perform duties which are not core to their area of responsibility. Dynamics of remote working and social distancing based working in office premises with protective face gears like masks and shields has impacted work relationships. It’s critical to provide a responsible and engaging work environment to team members. Technology can play a very important role in this. Collaboration, communication and the right software tools designed specifically for the nonprofit sector can be highly effective in building a responsible and engaging work environment.
